Japanese wooden latticework,
made to order for your interior.

The craft
Kumiko is fine wooden latticework: slender pieces are cut, fitted and assembled into intricate patterns without nails.
Kumiko panels can divide rooms, screen views or line walls and ceilings. The pattern and density of the lattice determine how much light and visibility it allows.
TANIHATA makes kumiko to order, from established patterns to bespoke compositions developed with architects and designers.

Made for the project
Choose the pattern, panel proportions and timber to suit the setting. TANIHATA works with woods including Japanese cedar and cypress.
We can discuss standard patterns or a custom design with TANIHATA. Send us an elevation, a sketch or a description of where the panel will be used.
Ceiling applications require particular consideration of panel size, support and fixing. We agree the product specification around your project’s requirements.

Different densities and timber tones can be combined within a single composition. This allows the lattice to be more open in some areas and more closely spaced in others.
